A great weekend spent with some enthusiastic volunteers

Date published: 26/06/2017

This weekend Technical Director Nigel Gervis, Heritage Asset Advisor and Training Coordinator Sam Hale, Specialist Heritage Constructor Ross Brace and Professional Stone Mason Alistair McGowan were in attendance at the Waterway Recovery Group Training Weekend. To deliver a two day Introduction to Bricklaying Course – for beginners.

We had a fantastic weekend teaching an enthusiastic group of volunteers from all Waterway Recovery Groups, – travelling from all across England and funded by the Pilgrim Trust. The skills learnt on this weekend were the basics of lime in building and bricklaying. Taking volunteers through the specification of lime on canal sites, brick bonds and building techniques. They will use skills learnt on this weekend on canal camps running in the summer to restore derelict lock chambers!

This is a fantastic opportunity to pass on knowledge to volunteers wanting to learn heritage skills and to contribute to a live conservation project.
