WahacaWahaca concentrate on three main areas where they feel they can best reduce their environmental footprint:

  • Sourcing locally and responsibly
  • Building environmentally efficient restaurants
  • Helping our teams work sustainably

Client: Wahaca Restaurant, White City

Materials Supplied: glaster® Plaster/Render

From the day they first opened in Covent Garden, they challenged themselves to minimise the environmental impact their business caused. They’ve since learned how to build sustainability into every element of their restaurants.

WahacaTy-Mawr is pleased to have supplied coloured (pigmented) glaster plaster to Wahaca which has provided an exciting backdrop for both the restaurant and the street art. In fitting with the Mexican and market culture, each restaurant has specific commissions focusing on street and environmental art by the most exciting artists of the moment.

The project has been nominated for a RIBA award ... architects Marchini Curran Associates (MCA) describe the restaurant as "reflecting the spirit of Mexican markets and regional food, utilising a raw and exposed materials palette". MCA worked with consultants Softroom to produce a rich interior containing a mix of historic Central American vernacular and modern influences.
