Ty-Mawr Dispersible Natural Fibres - Screed Fibres

Dispersible Natural Fibres – the sustainable alternative to plastic/animal reinforcing fibres

Throughout history, fibre has been added to plasters and screeds. Yet the modern animal hair trade raises concerns regarding animal welfare and labour practices, and is predominantly imported which adds to its embodied energy. Plastic fibres have become the ‘convenient’ choice, and the construction industry is one of the highest consumers of plastics globally. Public awareness of the environmental impacts of plastics is growing – and we want to offer customers alternative products that have reduced embodied energy and do not cause microplastic pollution.

After extensive research and testing, Tŷ-Mawr now offers fully dispersible hemp fibres that are a direct substitute for plastic/animal fibres in lime or cementitious plasters, renders and screeds.

The fibres are available in a 24mm length for floor screeds and slabs. They come in dissolvable paper bags that can be added directly into the mix as required, and they do not clog or ball like other fibres.

If you require synthetic fibres, you can order them here.
