Floor Insulation

Floor insulation is a key step in improving your home’s energy efficiency, comfort, and warmth. Whether your property has a solid or suspended floor, effective insulation helps reduce heat loss, cut energy bills, and create a more comfortable living environment all year round.

Solid floors are all floors that sit directly on the soil, whether it is traditional flagstones laid directly on the soil or a more modern concrete slab. The key purpose of this floor is to provide insulation and damp protection to improve the internal living conditions, however for a solid wall building this must be achieved without introducing a damp proof membrane (DPM). Damp proof membranes work with modern cavity construction as they integrate with the damp proof course (DPC), however with a solid wall construction the DPM can result in increased moisture in the walls. The Sublime Floor System offers an ideal solution for insulating solid floors, designed for performance, sustainability and ease of construction, it combines the Glapor recycled foamed glass, with a limecrete. The Sublime Floor System eliminates the need for a damp proof membrane protecting the fabric of the building whilst reducing embodied carbon.

Suspended floors are commonly found in older homes, timber joists support floorboards over a sub-floor void. Insulation is installed between the joists, using a breathable membrane to support it which helps to stop cold draughts and improve indoor comfort. We have a range of different flexible insulation such as the Thermafleece Cosywool and Schneider Flex50 which can be used between joists.

Upgrading your floor insulation not only enhances energy efficiency but also reduces condensation and dampness, contributing to a healthier home environment. Whether you’re renovating or building new, insulating your floors is an investment that delivers long-term savings and year-round comfort.
