The Schneider Multitherm140 square edge woodfibre insulation board is a high-performance, natural fibre insulation for internal insulation of solid masonry walls.
Available in 40mm and 60mm, this woodfibre board offers a practical and environmentally conscious alternative to synthetic internal insulation systems. It is ideal for use in retrofit, heritage conservation, and low-energy building projects where maintaining breathability and indoor air quality is a priority.
20mm boards are available for insulating window and door reveals but are not generally suitable for primary wall surfaces.
The Multitherm140 boards are also available in a tongue and groove edge profile suitable for fixing to timber studs / joists – please see these boards here
Manufactured from sustainably sourced wood fibres, this board provides excellent thermal resistance, improving energy efficiency and comfort throughout the year. Its natural composition ensures low embodied carbon, and it is fully recyclable at the end of its service life, supporting sustainable building practices. Its hygroscopic properties allow it to absorb and release moisture, helping to regulate indoor humidity and reduce the risk of condensation and mould growth—making it ideal for traditional solid wall buildings and modern eco-renovations alike.

Remove loose layers of plaster, and level undulations in the substrate with a suitable lime plaster
Gypsum or cement plaster should be removed and replaced with lime
Drying times of about 1mm per day of plaster must be observed before installing the woodfibre boards
Cutting
All standard cutting equipment for cutting wood, such as bench-type circular saws and handheld circular saws, can be used to cut MULTITHERM 140 boards to size.
The dust which is generated when cutting wood fiber insulation boards, should be extracted by means of a vacuum extractor and it is advisable to wear a dust mask.
The boards can be recessed to accommodate cables or conduits if required.
Installation
Avoid board edges at the corners of window openings, otherwise there is increased risk of cracks in these areas
Install the boards on a staggered basis with an vertical offset of at least 25 cm to each other
The edges of the board must be precisely fitted together at all junctions and should not have adhesive between the boards.
Boards must be installed with full adhesive coverage – dot and dab installation is not acceptable.
Do not use MULTITHERM 140 as load-bearing component
Storage
The boards must be stored in a dry place and protected against UV rays and mechanical damage.
