Benefits

laths provide the ideal background for lime plasters

riven laths are stronger than sawn laths as they are split on the grain and provide a good 'key'

they can be dampened down beforehand to help control the suction of the lime plaster and aid carbonation - see application guides

FAQs

Can I use ordinary nails internally for lathing?

Yes, but externally it must be stainless steel.

How should I fix my laths? Should I stagger my laths?

Yes, they should be securely fixed with staggering joints every 3ft. We recommend that the gap between each lath be approximately 10-15mm to enable the plaster to form nibs.
