Riven Oak LathsOver the last year or so, a large amount of Riven Oak Laths has been supplied by Ty-Mawr Lime to customers across the country. Our post about this on Facebook last year prompted a number of enquiries about the merits and applications of Riven Oak Laths.

Our Heritage Asset Advisor, Sam Hale, explains: "If you are repairing or conserving original lath and plaster, or installing new lath and plaster, then riven oak lath is simply the best quality you can find. The hand riven premium grade oak is very strong, has no short grain and provides excellent key characteristics and will outlast any other type of lath."

Sam continued: "If your building is pre-Victorian, then riven oak is the ideal material for conservation and like-for-like repair. Riven oak is ideal for all applications, but especially for ceilings, and is a must for ornate plaster ceilings which take a lot of weight, as well as for external use in timber-framed houses. Given its quality, it can even be used as a decorative statement, finished and un-plastered, for ceilings and divisions."
