MD treks again! 

Our intrepid MD Joyce Morgan-Gervis, is attempting another challenging trek through some of the highest mountains in the world – the Himalayas in 2019 in aid of Velindre Cancer Care.

In 2015, she took part in a trek through Patagonia for Velindre Cancer Care. The group raised over £530,000 - inspired by this huge accomplishment, in 2017, Joyce, along with 42 other fund raisers, undertook another challenge, this time at altitude and camping along a little used remote Inca trail which eventually brought them to Machu Picchu, this was another hugely successful trek led by Rhod Gilbert which raised over £420,000 for Velindre.

In April this year she also completed an unsupported attempt to cover 100km across the Arctic Circle in 4 days! The small group succeeded and along the way crossed frozen lakes, skirted ancient glaciers, passed through the villages of the indigenous Sami people, witnessed some of the most stunning scenery on the planet, and got a glimpse of the Northern Lights, raising much needed funds for Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff. This time, the small group riased an incredible £142,000.

Being a Managing Director of growing business and a Mum to three busy boys, Joyce undertakes the treks and challenges to give her the focus to step outside of her busy world and put her energies in to doing something for others showing that just diverting a relatively small amount of time and energy can make a huge difference to other lives as these treks have done raising over £1 million between all the participants!

Again, Joyce and her family have organised a variety of activities and events at Ty Mawr to assist in the fund raising efforts. The first was given by ITV presenter Carole Green who spoke on the Brick children of Nepal, a charity for which she is a trustee and the second is ‘Wild at the Lake’, a year in the life of Llangorse Lake by Mr Keith Noble!
