Lib Dem leadership descend on Ty-Mawr!

Lib Dem leadership visit Ty-MawrThis afternoon we received a visit from Tim Farron MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, and Kirsty Williams, Leader of the Liberal Democrats in Wales. The Lib Dem senior leadership were in Brecon campaigning ahead of the Welsh Assembly Elections that take place next month.

 Ty-Mawr's Managing Director, Joyce Gervis, said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate our work today and show the impact that we, as a small, home grown business, has had and is having on the economy. We feel that Tŷ-Mawr Lime is an excellent example of how small businesses can achieve tremendous growth, create stable jobs, and put millions (£s) annually into the local economy. Importantly for us, we also illustrated how all of this is possible whilst operating ethically and with real concern for the environment."

 

Kirsty Williams attempts some plasteringThe visitors were invited to try their hand at plastering using Ty-Mawr’s lime hemp plaster, a breathable plaster manufactured using UK grown hemp fibres instead of sand, and were shown their insulation systems using sustainable materials including Welsh wool, cork and woodfibre.

 Nigel Gervis, Technical Director said “ It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to show that by just using our natural or recycled materials that we are able to design wall, roof and floor systems that comply with current building regulations which helps to reduce energy consumption in buildings”.

 Speaking to the BBC, ITV and local media after the visit in Brecon,Tim Farron MP, said: “Ty-Mawr Lime are exactly the sort of great business we need across the UK. They are good for the economy, they create jobs, and they are environmentally friendly ... we need more businesses like this!"

 

Tim Farron MP talking to the BBCUsing the visit as an opportunity to communicate Liberal Democrat policies, Kirsty Williams added: "“The Welsh Liberal Democrats’ vision of an Opportunity Economy will help Welsh businesses like Ty-Mawr Lime to fulfill their ambitions."

 She added: "We'll invest in digital infrastructure to improve mobile phone and broadband coverage. We'll help businesses grow through our Small Business Administration, bringing independent advice and finance together so businesses have the best chance of success. And we will more than double the number of apprenticeships, as we believe in investing in our future workforce."
