Can I apply Limewash using a sprayer?

There are two different types of sprayer used commonly in paint application the first being a knapsack sprayer and the second is a sprayer that is used with pressure from a compressor.

We would not suggest using a knapsack sprayer for Limewash application as the lime particles can block the jet. People have used stirrup pumps in the past as they don’t have such a fine nozzle.

There are sprayers that can be used with a compressor, again you would require a nozzle that is not too fine in order to allow the lime particles to pass through.

However it is important to note that Limewash will always need to be worked in/ burnished with a brush in order to aid adhesion and eliminate pooling and runs on the surface which is being painted.

To learn more about the correct application of Limewash please see our illustrated application guide here, we also have a video, watch it here!
