Essex Business School, The University of Essex
The Essex Business School at the University of Essex has an emphasis on postgraduate learning and research, with flexible group learning and media facilities to promote extended community and international links. It provides students, staff and business partners with innovative spaces and a collaborative environment, centred around a winter garden.
Client: University of Essex
Architects: BDP
Products Supplied: St Astier Prependuit preparation mortar, topped with a lime render using St Astier NHL3.5 and Ty-Mawr roughcast aggregate, finished with Ty-Mawr 'off-white' limewash.
The site is located in parkland on a hillside overlooking an estuary and forms an important link between the existing 1960s campus and the new knowledge gateway research park.
BDP's brief was to provide a stimulating learning environment, innovative social spaces and dedicated office space for student entrepreneurs. As a result, they designed a landmark new building that reflected the university’s vision for growth, excellence and sustainability, and developed the first zero-carbon business school in the UK.
Ty-Mawr was delighted to be able to play a part in this project, supplying St Astier Prependuit topped with a lime render using St Astier NHL3.5 and Ty-Mawr roughcast aggregate, finished with Ty-Mawr 'off-white' limewash.
