"Your topcoat is wonderful, far easier to control than making your own and less grainy on corners than others I have tried. Excellent coverage which made top coating the whole house a lot more economic than I thought". JW, Wales.

Thermafleece PB20 Launched

THERMAFLEECE PB20 TOP CHOICE FOR PENPONT

Thermafleece PB20, the latest innovation in sheep’s wool insulation from Second Nature UK Ltd, has been used in the construction of an ecologically conscious house in the grounds of Penpont, one of Wales’ finest country estates.

Situated in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park and dating back to 1666, Penpont is a Grade 1 listed country house situated in over 2000 acres of working rural estate. When owners Gavin and Davina Hogg decided they wanted to build a four bedroom property within the grounds, they needed products that delivered on price, environmental performance and that were sympathetic to the surrounding estate. Thermafleece PB20 met this brief.

Thermafleece PB20 blends 60% British sheep’s wool with a mix of recycled polyester to create a sustainable insulating product with thermal conductivity rating of 0.039 W/Mk. The product’s unique composition also means it loses no shape or structure over time which ensures that thermal performance does not deteriorate with age. The natural fibre content of Thermafleece PB20 also acts in sympathy with buildings to control humidity and improve air quality by trapping everyday pollutants.

But it wasn’t simply its eco credentials that appealed to owners Gavin and Davina. Gavin Hogg, commented: “Some ‘green’ alternatives are simply not viable because of cost but we found Themafleece PB20 to be extremely competitively priced compared to alternatives we looked at, particularly for the benefits it delivers. We’ve used the product throughout the walls, ceiling and loft of our property to ensure we get maximum benefit. ”

The Hogg’s obtained their Thermafleece PB20 from Brecon based company Ty Mawr, which specialises in ecological building products ranging from lime based plasters and mortars to insulation materials such as Thermafleece.
Joyce Gervis from Ty Mawr commented: “Thanks to our unique relationship with Second Nature UK, we are able to guarantee that at least 75% of the wool used in the Thermafleece we offer originates from Welsh hill sheep. For projects such as this where heritage and local environment are so important, this is certainly an added benefit.”
As well as Thermafleece, the Hogg’s have also utilised a wide range of other green technologies on the property. The house is entirely heated by wood burners, is clad in Larch from the surrounding woodland and is constructed from SIP panels to make the property solar passive.

Gavin continued: “We’ve worked closely with our architects, Fergus Fielden and Ed Fowles, and contractor Martin Forsythe, to ensure that this property is thoroughly modern and practical without costing the earth, in both senses of the phrase. Products such as Thermafleece PB20 have helped us achieve this result.”
