Traditional Fat Lime Plaster/Render

Lime plasters and renders were commonly used in most buildings up until the 1930s-40s - from humble cottage to grand cathedrals.

As well as helping to maintain the well being of the building (moisture control and flexibility), lime plaster also has a soft aesthetic which gives older buildings a particular 'feel'.

Their ability to control moisture makes them highly appropriate for use with other ecological materials such as straw, wood and earth, hence their growth  in new eco-builds.

Finally, it is generally accepted that lime plasters can improve the internal environment as they can help to regulate humidity by absorbing moisture, unlikew modern plasters and do not promote the growth of mould spores which are believed to contribute to asthmas, etc....

Ty-Mawr Premixed lime plaster/render is a ready-to-use plaster that simply requires 'knocking-up' prior to use.It is produces by blending lime putty with specially selected aggregates - coarse for roughcast and undercoats and fine for the finish coat.

Our Premixed lime plaster/render can be supplied haired (synthetic or natural) or unhaired so that hair/fibre can be addred on site. Hair is usually included in the first two coats (scratch and float) to provide tensile strength.

Tips - By adding a coarse aggregate, a roughcast or harled finish can be achieved - this greatly increases the surface area of the building and hence it ability to shed water - this can solve water penetration problems in old buildings.
