Building/Wood Wool Boards

Ty-Mawr Wood Wool Boards have been used in buildings for many decades and have proved to be a very popular product as a lime carrier over the 10 years in which we have been promoting and selling them for use with our products. They are strands of wood bound together with minerals.

The Ty-Mawr range of boards conform to EN 13168 and are certified Ecobiocompatible.

Unlike some of the other wood wool products on the market, ours are waterproof, freeze-proof and damp-proof, making them appropriate in damp environments and or in poor weather conditions.

Swiss regulations classify these products as practically incombustable.

Dimensions

They are available in sheets 2400mm x 600mm and three thicknesses:

- 15mm (internal walls only) - 130 per oversized pallet

- 25mm (external walls and ceilings) - 88 per oversized pallet

- 50mm (external walls and ceilings) - 44 per oversized pallet.

We do split pallets for your convenience.

Please note that we have a huge amount of knowledge and experience developed over more than a decade of working with these products. We understand which plasters are suitable for these boards for the various applications but we can only support the system if we supply the whole system i.e. the boards, mesh (when required) and the plaster/render. Even then, it is important to follow the application guides provided for a successful finish. Full installation instructions are supplied with the boards as well as telephone support.

How do I fix wood wool boards?

Wood wool boards can easily be cut to shape using an ordinary site saw. Full information is provided with the boards and available in the documentation section of the website.

Boards can be fixed using stainless steel screws the length of which should be the thickness of the board plus a minimum of 25mm. At least 8 fixings per square metre is recommended.

We strongly recommed using a plastic fixing washer used to avoid the screw pulling through the board - people often try to economise by leaving these fixings out - the boards then move, the plaster fails etc, so it is a false economy.

How do I finish the wood wool board?

We recommend that our lime hemp plaster, glaster® plaster or one of our lime plasters is used along with the render mesh (as required) to give tensile strength.

Can they be used on ceilings as well as walls?

Yes, but please note that it is vitally important to follow precise instructions for a successful job.

For ceilings the 25mm board should be used then for heavy stress ceilings, it is best to apply a 6mm coat of the medium grade lime hemp plaster, then the Ty-Mawr render mesh can be trowelled in, followed by a 6mm top coat of the same medium grade lime hemp plaster. If thicker coats can/are being applied, the mesh would not be required.

For ceilings of light stress onto 25mm Ty-Mawr wood wool boards, a single 15mm coat (with no mesh) can be applied of the medium grade lime hemp plaster.

Can the boards be used for external applications?

Yes, the 25mm or 50mm boards with our glaster render can be used - please contact us for build ups.

Please note that we can only support full wall and ceiling build-ups if all products used are purchased through ourselves as we know precisely the quality of our materials, size of mesh etc and have specification clauses for all applications.
