Ty-Mawr Colour Day ideal for architects, conservation officers, planners, development control and homeowners. The course covers how colour works, the Natural Colour System, identifying colours in the landscape, the creation of colour palettes and synthesis of colour schemes.
The day is taken by colour specialist Jem Waygood who has created colour palettes for architects and local authorities from one off buildings to street frontages and entire towns.
Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the colour and texture
of products on this website but due to the limitations of technology,
we strongly recommend that sample products are purchased for testing in situ
prior to the full order being placed.
Coffee and start at 9.30am
The day will begin with a presentation on the Natural Colour System and how colour works.
Six elementary colours are the basis for the Natural Colour System. These are White, Black, Yellow, Red, Blue and Green. The colours are shown on a three dimensional model called the NCS Colour Solid. Every colour in the Natural Colour System is contained within this and can be described in terms of the six elementary colours.
Colours in the NCS are defined by three values, specifying the amount of blackness (darkness), chromaticity (saturation), and a percentage value between the colours red, yellow, green or blue (hue).
The illustrated talk will include how we see colour in the landscape, colours in nature, differences in background and foreground colour and how to apply colour to architecture. Colour palettes will be investigated and described with harmonising colours, accent colours and linking colours.
Delegates will go out into the field with the NCS Index to identify colours in the landscape from the historic buildings at Ty-Mawr Farm to the shore of Llangors Lake. Attendees are encouraged to bring digital cameras to record their colour sources.
After lunch there will be a workshop period of grouping colours into a collection and the synthesis of colour palettes from these selections.
There will follow an introduction and explanation of natural and ecological paints and delegates will get a chance to see and work with limewashes and active silicate mineral paints.
The day will finish with a round up and questions at 4.30-5pm
Held at Ty-Mawr HQ in the heart of the Brecon Beacons the course takes place in our restored Grade II* listed granary.
Delegates will benefit from a fantistic landscape on the doorstep for site work collecting colours
